It is relatively stable to acid and alkali, and does not react with medium concentration nitric acid or mixed acid at low temperature, and nitration reaction with dilute nitric acid occurs in the sealed tube above 100℃to generate nitrocyclohexane. Benzene is dehydrogenated at 350℃under the catalysis of platinum or palladium. It isomerized with alumina, molybdenum sulfide, cobalt, nickel and aluminum at high temperature to form methyl pentane. And aluminum chloride under mild conditions isomerized to methyl cyclopentane

Volatile and highly flammable, steam and air form explosive mixtures with explosive limits of 1.3-8.4% (volume). In case of open fire and high heat, it is easy to burn and explode. Contact with the oxidant may result in a strong reaction, or even combustion. In a fire, the heated container is in danger of exploding. Its vapor is heavier than air and can be diffused to a considerable distance at a lower place.
